Executive Recruitment

About us

The Office for Students (OfS) is the new independent regulator for the Higher Education sector. Our aim is for every student to have a fulfilling experience of higher education that enriches their lives and careers.

We regulate English higher education providers on behalf of all students. Our regulatory framework explains how we do this, and our strategy describes our objectives and priorities.

We work in four main areas:

1. Helping students to get into and succeed in higher education

We want students from all backgrounds to be able to enter, succeed in and progress from higher education.

Supporting students from disadvantaged backgrounds to enter higher education is not enough. There is also work to do to close the gaps between different types of students when it comes to continuing studies, gaining a good degree, and finding employment.

2. Helping students stay informed

We want to make sure that students receive excellent information and guidance so they can make good choices about what and where to study.

3. Making sure that students get a high-quality education that prepares them for the future

We want students to have a great teaching, learning and wider educational experience that gives them the skills and knowledge they need to succeed in employment or further study.

4. Protecting students’ interests

We make sure that providers of higher education are able to deliver value for money for students, and have plans in place should something go wrong.

What we do not do

We are not responsible for tuition fees policy or student loans, and we are not allowed to provide funding to individual students.

We cannot usually get involved in individual complaints about a university or college.
